What’s Happening Now

In April 2025, Steve Tobin unveiled New York Roots, a monumental new public art exhibition in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Presented by the Garment District Alliance in partnership with NYC DOT Art, this series of seven towering steel sculptures transforms the Broadway plazas between 39th and 41st Streets into a space of reflection, connection, and wonder.

Inspired by the unseen strength of roots and the fluid motion of calligraphy and dance, these 22-foot-tall works celebrate community, resilience, and the natural forces that unite us. The installation—free and open to the public through February 2026—continues Tobin’s legacy of using art to shape public space and spark conversation.

From the vitality of city streets to the hidden power beneath our feet, New York Roots invites viewers to explore their surroundings—and their relationships—with fresh eyes.
